Hi! I'm Niuska Alvarez

I'm a PhD student and researcher passionate about understanding and treating glioblastoma, one of the most aggressive brain tumors. I'm currently completing my doctoral studies at the University of Barcelona in Spain, where I specialize in molecular biology, cancer research, and advanced in-vitro models.

My Research Focus

My work focuses on developing realistic platforms to study tumor behavior and drug responses, including patient-derived glioblastoma spheroids and brain organoid co-cultures. I'm especially interested in how the tumor microenvironment shapes resistance and cell identity, and how we can use this knowledge to move closer to personalized cancer treatments.

Beyond the Bench

Beyond the bench, I'm dedicated to making science more accessible, whether through public outreach, mentorship, or now, this blog! Here, I'll be sharing stories from the lab, explaining complex concepts in simple terms, reviewing cutting-edge papers, and opening up about the highs and lows of life as a scientist.

My Philosophy

And just to be clear — I'm not an influencer, and I'm not trying to sell you anything. I don't do this for clicks or sponsorships. I write this blog because I love science, I believe in sharing knowledge, and I've learned that teaching is one of the best ways to grow — both as a scientist and as a human.

This Space is For You

This space is here for you, too. If you ever have a question, want to suggest a topic, or need a tip for an experiment or protocol — please reach out! I've dedicated a page on the blog where you can ask me anything, whether it's about a trend you're curious about, a concept you'd like explained, or something you're working on in the lab. No question is too simple or too specific — if it matters to you, it matters to me.

Thanks for joining me!

Thanks for joining me on this journey through the brain, biology, and beyond!
